The Red Scarf Campaign & Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages people to be generous.

It started in 2012 with one simple idea: set aside a day for doing good. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide effort that inspires millions of people to give, work together, and celebrate kindness all year long.

You can join in by giving your time, donating money to support your community.

The idea is simple: every kind act makes a difference. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger, supporting a cause you care about, or sharing what you can with people who need help—everyone has something to offer, and every act of generosity helps build a better world.

The Red Scarf Campaign 2025

Leading up to AIDS Awareness Week (November 24-December 1), volunteers knit red scarves.  To kick-off AIDS Awareness Week, interactive public awareness art installations are set up with hundreds of red scarves lining the streets.  The scarves are free and are taken by community members.  The scarves represent the red ribbon which is the international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness.  Not only do the scarves help raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, but they also share the warmth for those who may be in need.
