GetaKit (Self Testing)
What is GetaKit?
GetaKit.ca is an online portal that gives Ontarians access to discreet testing for HIV and other STBBIs.
GetaKit.ca is a service which aims to increase HIV testing, the frequency of testing, the number of people who know their status, and the number of people linked to treatment and care — all of which contribute to decreasing HIV transmission. Having these accessible and lower barrier HIV tests are particularly important to reduce infection rates in key population groups such as: Gay, bisexual, transmasculine identified individuals and men who have sex with men; People of African, Caribbean, and other Black descent; and People who use substances and/or inject drugs.
How it Works
It’s simple. You create an account, answer a few questions to determine which tests are appropriate for you, and then, depending on what tests you order, you may either receive digital requisitions emailed to you or the lab, or actual tests mailed to you in discrete packaging.
What tests are available?
HIV tests are available to everyone in Ontario. If you live in Halton and Hamilton, you can also get tests for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis and Hepatitis C.
Why get tested?
It is always better to know. If you test positive for an infection, you can get treatment and support so that you stay healthy and do not infect others. Regular testing is a key part of healthcare, especially if you use substances, have regular unprotected sex, or have multiple sex partners.
Register online at GetaKit.ca to have a free self-test kit mailed discreetly to your home if you qualify.
