Clinics & Testing
The Positive Health Network offers a variety of clinical services out of our office space at 140 King St E, Suite 101.
Standard HIV Testing
With standard (or confirmatory) HIV testing, a health service provider will take a blood sample from you and send it to the public health laboratory. Results can take up to one week.
In Hamilton, book an appointment by calling or texting 289-440-1849.
In Halton Region, book an appointment by calling 311 or emailing sexualhealth@halton.ca.
You can also book online at www.halton.ca/For-Residents/Sexual-Health/Sexual-Health-Clinics.
Point of Care HIV Testing
With point-of-care or rapid HIV testing, a service provider will prick your finger and provide you with the result in the same visit. When a result is reactive or preliminary positive, you will be offered standard/confirmatory testing and if you agree, the provider will take another blood sample to send to the public health laboratory.
Anonymous HIV Testing
With anonymous testing, a service provider from a clinic authorized to provide this form of testing, will take your blood for testing but will not ask you for any personal identifying information, or to show ID, or to present your health card to receive testing – your testing is entirely anonymous. Anonymous testing clinics offer both point-of-care testing and standard (confirmatory) testing.
Self-testing
Self testing is the newest option, where you may obtain a self-test yourself (available online or from service providers), which you can take home and conduct yourself. If this test is reactive or preliminary positive, you will need to do a standard HIV test to confirm your self-test result. If your self-test result is reactive, please reach out to us at positivehealthnetwork.org or 1-866-563-0563. We can provide the support you might need and will connect you with appropriate services near you.
